Food security remains a major disquiet in the country and across the globe.
• Food security remains a major disquiet in the country and across the globe. Sustainable development requires access to affordable and adequate food at all times. MDS- Kenya will focus on initiating and developing Agricultural practices that promotes sustainable and plenteous food production.

We promote peace
Sustainable development thrives in an environment where there is peace and harmony. Conflicts and violence inhibits sustainable development. MDS-Kenya will focus building the capacities of communities on peace building, conflict transformation and facilitate conflict mediations between individuals and communities.

Water and environmental conservation
Water and environmental conservation is at the heart of Mennonite Development Services' mission.
Majority of MDS work environment borders Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world. Human activities, industrialization and natural calamities such as soil erosion have made the lake waters impure hence unconducive to human health over the years. MDS programing will focus on providing access to affordable and safe water for utilization through public awareness on household and industrial waste management and improving vegetation coverage and household woodlot.

Good governance is essential for creating lasting change.
MDS-Kenya will focus on advocacy for social accountability, citizen participation in development programs and promote citizen voice in election processes. Good governance and management structures and social accountability will enhance quality and successful implementation of programs.

Emergency relief
MDS-Kenya provides emergency relief.
Additionally, MDS-Kenya will provide response and emergency relief to persons and communities affected by climate related disasters, conflict related disasters and disease outbreaks. MDS will mobilize resources from the government entities, philanthropists and community members to be able to respond to the emergencies.

Situation assessment identified access to health and social services as a serious gap in the counties where MDS Kenya is working. will focus on increasing access to health and social services through providing preventing and curative services. Consequently, MDS will provide services that reduces maternal and child morbidity and mortality in the counties.
